Dr. Phichai Tovivich, Thailand

Dr.Phichai Tovivich was born in Chiengmai, Thailand in 1939. Since 1965 right after obtaining a B.Sc. with Honours in Chemistry from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, he had been teaching chemistry at the same university until he retired in 1998.

At present he is the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Neolab International Co., Ltd. The main business of this company is dealing with laboratory furniture including design and manufacturing of scientific laboratory benches, cabinets, fume cupboards and scrubbers etc.

His main interest is not only in chemistry and design of scientific laboratory for safety and ergonomics as well as saving energy. More importantly, he is very keen in campaigning chanting and praying for H.M. the Great King of Thailand (H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej) and for world peace, promoting eternal peace, studying and practicing in spirituality. He has been traveling in almost 30 countries around the world in relation to his various activities. Especially, he traveled a lot during 1977 – 1991 when he worked for UNESCO as the Executive Secretary of the Southeast Asian Network for the Chemistry of Natural Products.

He has been involved with so many charity activities. Just a few examples: In scientific academy, he used to be the president of the Chemical Society of Thailand during 2005 and 2006,  under the Patronage of H.M. the King in 1990 – 1991. He was one of the Founders and Executive Committee of the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology under the Patronage of H.M. the King during 1983 up to 1996. He has been associated with the Professor Dr.Tab Nilanidhi Foundation in giving awards and scholarships to the excellent science students in all the universities in Thailand since its establishment in 1968.

At present he is an Advisor of so many organizations such as the Preecha – Prapai Amatyakul Science Foundation, the Distance Learning Foundation, the Science Alumni Association and the Rachapruek College etc. He has also been serving the country as one of the working committees on the consideration of machines, materials and equipment for the Protection of Environment (under the Ministry of Science and Technology) in which he is the only one who has been working continuously since its establishment in 1983 up to the present day.

After teaching chemistry for more than 30 years at Chulalongkorn University, he diverged some what from the path of true science and embarked on a more holistic journey. He was appointed to be the Samnak Poo Sawan Fellow Society which is one of the most popular sacred houses in Thailand in 1992. What he has been trying to do is to follow up the activities created by Dr.Suchart Kosolkitiwong, the World Peace Envoy, who became a monk namely Ariyawanso Bhikhu in 1991 and passed away in 2005. Among the high lights of the activities are related to world peace, environment, inter-religions and vegetarianism, etc.

He has published several books in Thai for examples; “A Handbook of Chemical Safety”, “Star War”, “Aliens Ways of Living” He also warned the people publicly through mass media; newspaper, radios and TV about the unhealthy of the seasoning powder Mono Sodium Glutamate (MSG) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) drinking water. One of his most popular booklets “AD1999: the World in Disaster; B.E.2542: the Ways for Survival” in which his prophecies including Tsunami and other natural disasters were printed and distributed more than 1 million copies during 1998 – 1999. He was called by the “Daily News” in Sri Lanka as “The Modern-Day Nostradamus” when he visited to Colombo in 1999.

He was listed in the International Who’s Who of Intellectuals 1990 – 1991 by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, UK and also in “Who’s Who in Thailand”, Executive/CEO, APEC special edition, 2004.

He was awarded several prizes such as the Outstanding Vegetarian of the Year 1998 from the Vegetarian Society, Mumbai, India; the Outstanding Alumnus of the Science Faculty, Chulalongkorn University and a Certificate of Merit from the Thai Volunteers for Social Foundation in 2002. He was also awarded Outstanding Man of the Year 2003 and Outstanding CEO of the Year 2004 both by the Foundation for Thai Society. He was granted the Nataji Subash Chandra Bose National Award for Excellence on Peace Propagation by the Jagruthi Kiran Foundation, Nagpur, India on the Netaji’s 108 Birthday 23th January 2005.
